Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A certified nursing assistant at a local assisted living facility in Hot Springs, Deadra Nacole Tubbs, 33, was arrested on Tuesday on a felony charge for allegedly injuring a patient by pushing her down during an incident in March.

Tubbs, a resident of Hot Springs, was booked into the Garland County Detention Center on a warrant for abuse of adults, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. She was later released on a $3,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Garland District Court on July 5.

According to court records, Tubbs has a prior arrest history. In November 2018, she was arrested on a felony count of theft of leased or rented property for allegedly failing to return a bedroom suite and television she had rented from Bestway Rental in Hot Springs. She pleaded guilty in December 2019 to an amended misdemeanor count and was sentenced to one year in jail, all suspended, and ordered to pay $440 in court costs and fines.

The probable cause affidavit for Tubbs’ recent arrest states that on March 8, shortly before noon, Hot Springs police responded to Brookfield Assisted Living, located at 205 Sawtooth Oak St. Staff at the facility reported that on March 7, a female resident, aged 69, was carrying cups of water and throwing the water on employees.

Witnesses reported that Tubbs pushed the woman, causing her to fall and sustain a head injury that required medical transport to a local hospital. Tubbs initially claimed that the incident was an accidental injury, stating that the woman had slipped or fallen due to water.

Brookfield Assisted Living is a facility specializing in senior care, including treatment for dementia and other mental health concerns. The victim had been a resident at the facility since December 2023, and Tubbs had been employed as a certified nursing assistant there since August 2022.

Security camera footage and witness statements corroborated that Tubbs had pushed the woman to the ground. The victim’s injury required several stitches due to an open wound on her head. A warrant for Tubbs’ arrest was subsequently issued.

This incident highlights the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals in care facilities. The legal proceedings against Tubbs serve as a reminder of the consequences of neglect or abuse in such settings.
