A certified nursing assistant at an assisted living facility in Hot Springs, UK, was taken into custody on Tuesday following accusations of causing harm to a patient by forcefully pushing her in March.
Deadra Nacole Tubbs, 33, a resident of Hot Springs, was apprehended on a felony charge of abuse of adults, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. She was booked into the Garland County jail just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Tubbs was later released on a $3,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Garland County District Court on July 5 for further proceedings.
According to the details provided in the probable cause affidavit relating to Tubbs’ arrest, the incident took place on March 8, close to noon. Hot Springs law enforcement officers were called to Brookfield Assisted Living, located at 205 Sawtooth Oak St., where they met with the facility’s staff.
Staff members reported that on the previous day, March 7, around 7 p.m., a 69-year-old female resident of the facility was seen throwing cups of water at employees. In response to this behaviour, Tubbs allegedly pushed the woman, causing her to fall backwards and sustain a head injury that necessitated transportation to a nearby hospital.
Initially, Tubbs purported the incident as an accidental injury, attributing it to the woman slipping or falling due to the presence of water. This explanation was communicated verbally by staff members as well as through a handwritten statement provided by Tubbs.
The affidavit highlights that Brookfield Assisted Living is specifically geared towards senior care, with a focus on addressing dementia and other related mental health issues. The victim involved in this incident had been residing at the facility since December 2023 and is identified as a 69-year-old patient. Tubbs has been employed as a certified nursing assistant at Brookfield Assisted Living since August 2022.
Notably, the incident was captured on security camera footage and witnessed by multiple employees, each of whom described Tubbs’ actions as either “shoving” or “pushing” the woman to the ground.
