Tragic Rip Current Incident Claims Lives of Pennsylvania Couple in Florida

A holiday in the sun turned into a nightmare for a Pennsylvania couple, Brian Warter, 51, and Erica Wishard, 48, who tragically lost their lives after being caught in a rip current while vacationing with their six children on Hutchinson Island, Florida.

The family was enjoying a day at the beach behind the Marriott Hotel when the couple and two of their children were suddenly swept out by the strong rip current, leaving them in a perilous situation.

Despite the valiant efforts of their children to help them, the force of the water proved too much, forcing the kids to swim back to shore for their own safety.

According to Martin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy John Budensiek, witnesses reported that the couple was immediately pulled away from the shore by the rip current, leading to a frantic and tragic situation.

Emergency responders, including lifeguards and MCFR officials, worked tirelessly to rescue the unconscious victims from the water and administer CPR, but sadly, their efforts were in vain.

Both Brian and Erica were rushed to Cleveland Clinic Martin North Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, leaving their children devastated and in need of support during this difficult time.

As the community mourns the loss of this loving couple, the Martin County Sheriff’s Crisis Intervention Team is providing assistance to the grieving children as they await the arrival of other family members.
