A heartbreaking incident occurred in Nellore as a 14-year-old physically challenged girl lost her life in a devastating fire accident that also resulted in the destruction of at least 14 huts in the Barmashal Gunta area of the city on Thursday.
The victim, identified as A Nagalakshmi from Ranganayakulapeta in Nellore city, was unable to escape the flames that engulfed her home.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy unfolded around 3:25 pm on Thursday when a loud sound was heard from one of the houses, followed by a blast from an LPG gas cylinder. The ensuing fire quickly spread to neighbouring huts, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Fire officials swiftly responded to the emergency, managing to contain the fire before it could cause further damage. District Collector M Harinarayanan visited the site of the incident to assess the situation, attributing the cause of the fire to a short circuit.
Assurances were made to the affected families that the government would provide financial assistance in accordance with established norms to help them recover from their losses.
In a gesture of compassion and solidarity, Nellore Parliament TDP President Shaik Abdul Aziz visited the affected families and generously donated Rs 15,000 to each household, along with an additional Rs 30,000 to the family of the deceased from his personal funds. He expressed confidence that the government would soon step in to offer further support to the victims.
