Continuing Investigation in Port Kells Neighbourhood
Four days after the devastating loss of Dunn, homicide investigators are still actively canvassing the Port Kells neighbourhood. Their primary focus is on gathering witness statements and reviewing video surveillance footage to gather crucial evidence in what they describe as a “senseless” crime.
The Surrey RCMP responded to a call at a residence near the 9800-block of 182A Street around 10 p.m. PT on Sunday. Upon arrival, they discovered Dunn with life-threatening injuries. Despite immediate medical attention and efforts from first responders, Dunn tragically succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.
Suspect in Custody
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took over the case, leading to the apprehension of a suspect who was found in the area and taken into police custody. The individual remains detained on an unrelated charge that has not been disclosed by IHIT at this time.
In a public statement, IHIT stressed the importance of sharing Dunn’s identity to aid in their ongoing investigation. They assure the public that the case remains active, with investigators leaving no stone unturned in their quest for answers.
Collaborative Investigation Efforts
IHIT is collaborating with Surrey RCMP, the B.C. Coroners Service, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service to gather all necessary evidence and information in this case. Staff Sgt. David Lee of IHIT expressed condolences to Dunn’s family and the community, emphasizing their commitment to uncovering the truth behind this tragic event.
