In a tragic turn of events, a 63-year-old bicyclist met his untimely demise after being electrocuted by downed power lines on a trail near Pittsburgh on Tuesday evening, as reported by authorities.
The victim, identified as Robert Anderson, a 63-year-old teacher, was discovered by a jogger in North Park shortly before 8:30 p.m., according to Allegheny Police. First responders were unable to reach Anderson until 10:30 p.m., after Duquesne Light had cut power to the lines.
Tragically, Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene, located approximately 13 miles north of Pittsburgh. Described as a dedicated health and physical education teacher at Central Catholic High School, Anderson’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his students and colleagues.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident, and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,” stated Duquesne Light spokeswoman Hollie Geitner in a released statement, indicating that the utility company is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Following the incident, county police took precautionary measures by closing off the trail and cordoning off the area with caution tape, after receiving reports of the downed power lines earlier that morning.
