MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – In a recent turn of events, Mobile police have apprehended a 72-year-old woman, Rebecca Hightower, for allegedly depositing fraudulent checks at a local bank and attempting to withdraw cash, leading to her subsequent arrest.

On Tuesday, officers from the Mobile Police Department were summoned to the 6000 block of Airport Boulevard following a report of fraudulent checks being utilised. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Hightower had made an attempt to deposit these counterfeit checks into her account on June 3. Subsequently, the bank management identified the fraudulent nature of the checks and promptly flagged and closed the account in question.

It was further discovered that Hightower had purportedly endeavoured to withdraw funds from the aforementioned account on the day of her arrest. This prompted the Mobile Police Department to take swift action and detain Hightower, booking her into the Mobile County Metro Jail on a charge of attempted first-degree theft of property.

According to jail records, Hightower was later released on a $7,500 bond, with a scheduled court appearance set for July 2. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vigilance required in safeguarding against fraudulent activities, underscoring the importance of thorough verification processes in financial transactions.
