Accident – Death – Obituary News : Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – The Rochester Police Department has wrapped up its investigation into a tragic crash that resulted in the loss of a young Owatonna teenager’s life and involved a Minnesota State Trooper. The fatal three-vehicle collision took place at an entrance to Rochester’s Apache Mall on the evening of May 18, claiming the life of 18-year-old Olivia Flores, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
Olivia Flores tragically passed away three days after the crash, just weeks before she was set to graduate from high school. She was one of seven individuals injured in the collision. The driver of the vehicle Flores was in was identified as 21-year-old Angelina Bartz of Owatonna, with 19-year-old Katerina Bartz also in the Ford Focus.
The State Trooper involved in the crash was identified as 32-year-old Shane Roper, who had a 20-year-old passenger named Peter Meyer from Zumbrota accompanying him. The third vehicle in the collision was a Toyota Rav-4 SUV carrying 36-year-old Emie Pasco and 12-year-old Gabriela Parker, both from Owatonna, who suffered minor injuries.
Preliminary reports from the Rochester Police Department suggested that the collision occurred when Angelina Bartz attempted to make a left turn from westbound 12th Street Southwest into Apache Mall, colliding with the State Patrol squad car traveling east. The Ford Focus then struck the SUV leaving the mall, causing it to end up in a ditch.
Following the completion of their investigation, the Rochester Police Department has submitted the case file to the Olmsted County Attorney’s Office for review. There is currently no timeline for when a decision on potential charges will be made.
