LAWRENCE, Ind. (WXIN) — A couple in Indianapolis is facing charges of neglect after allegedly leaving their two young children in a locked car in extreme heat while they shopped at a local Walmart. According to the Lawrence Police Department, the parents, identified as Mirianne Pierre and Watson Joseph, left their children unattended in an SUV for approximately 40 minutes. A passerby noticed the kids inside the vehicle, which was not running, and immediately called 911. Responding officers found one child sweating profusely while the other appeared dazed, prompting swift action to rescue them from the dangerous situation.
The interior of the car reportedly reached temperatures of up to 125 degrees, highlighting the grave risks associated with leaving children unattended in hot vehicles. Both parents were arrested and booked into the Marion County jail on two counts of neglect of a dependent. The children have since been placed in the custody of the Department of Child Services.
