Accident – Death – Obituary News : Police in Lawrence, Indiana, have arrested two parents for allegedly leaving their young children in a locked car in 125-degree heat while they shopped at a local Walmart. The incident, which occurred on Monday night, prompted a concerned passerby to call 911 after noticing the kids inside the vehicle, which was not running.

Upon arrival, officers from the Lawrence Police Department found one child sweating profusely while the other appeared dazed. The ages of the children have not been disclosed. The parents, identified as Mirianne Pierre and Watson Joseph, were taken into custody and charged with two counts of neglect of a dependent. The children were subsequently placed in the care of the Department of Child Services.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Sgt. Anthony Patterson emphasized the dangers of leaving children unattended in hot cars, stating, “We never want to leave our kids unattended, much less when it’s hot outside. The moment we shut that engine off, the temperatures rise really rapidly.”

While Indianapolis police are not leading the investigation, they issued a reminder to parents about the risks of leaving children or pets in unattended vehicles during hot weather. Sgt. Paterson highlighted the rapid increase in temperature inside a closed vehicle and urged parents to be vigilant.

In a similar vein, the Indiana State Police in Bloomington issued a warning on Facebook, cautioning parents and pet owners about the dangers of high temperatures and leaving children or pets in hot cars. They advised against leaving anyone in a vehicle, even with the windows cracked, and encouraged individuals to thoroughly check the vehicle before walking away.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of child safety and responsible parenting.
