Accident – Death – Obituary News : Lake Bluff, Illinois (CBS) — Two teenagers were rescued from Lake Michigan on Wednesday afternoon after their paddle boards drifted away from the shoreline in Lake Bluff. The incident took place around 1:30 p.m., approximately one mile from the Lake Bluff shoreline.

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Marine Unit Lake Michigan Watercraft were on patrol when they noticed two 16-year-olds, a girl from Lake Bluff and a boy from Wauconda, paddle boarding and floating outward towards the center of Lake Michigan. Despite their efforts, the teens were unable to combat the wind and lake current, which continued to pull them away from the safety of the shoreline. It is worth noting that the teenagers were not equipped with life vests or any form of communication or emergency devices.

Fortunately, the marine unit deputies sprang into action, rescuing the teens from the lake and successfully retrieving their paddle boards. The teenagers emerged from the ordeal unscathed and were safely reunited with their families at the Lake Forest Marina. This rescue adds to the list of incidents that have occurred in Lake Michigan over the past few days.

Other distressing incidents on Lake Michigan include a man going missing after falling into the Playpen near Navy Pier on Saturday. Tragically, a body found floating near Ohio Street Beach was confirmed to be that of the missing man. In another heartbreaking incident, a woman was pulled from the water in Winnetka on Monday morning after a boat capsized, resulting in the death of 53-year-old Cristen Bolan. Additionally, a boy and girl, both 16, were rescued after their kayak flipped over in the lake. Despite efforts to save them, the boy sadly passed away after being retrieved by divers from the Chicago Fire Department.

On Monday afternoon, two individuals were rescued after almost drowning in Montrose Harbor. A man and a woman found themselves in a “no swim” area in the lake south of the beach, prompting fire officials to intervene. The woman received CPR from a passerby after she became unresponsive and was resuscitated before being taken to Weiss Hospital in fair condition. The man was also transported to the hospital for further treatment.

Fire officials strongly advise anyone venturing into the water to wear flotation gear, even when close to shore, and to heed any warning signs posted in the vicinity. It is crucial to prioritize safety and preparedness when engaging in water activities to prevent further tragic incidents..
