A female pedestrian standing on the side of a road in Kenner was struck by a passing vehicle on Wednesday night, resulting in injuries, according to a statement released by Kenner police on Thursday.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 20-year-old Jay Gordon from New Orleans, failed to stop and provide assistance to the injured woman before driving away from the scene, authorities reported.

The victim, who sustained a “significant head injury” as a result of the collision, was reported to be in stable condition following the incident, the police confirmed.

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Interstate 10 and Loyola Drive, as detailed in the news release issued by Kenner police. The woman had been inspecting her vehicle when she was struck by a white sedan.

Individuals who were inside the woman’s vehicle at the time of the incident informed law enforcement that the offending vehicle had been last seen exiting the New Orleans airport premises near I-10, according to the authorities.

Arrest and Charges

Following an investigation, officers managed to locate the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run incident and subsequently apprehended Jay Gordon. He was charged with hit-and-run driving causing serious injury, driving without a valid license, and driving without insurance.

Gordon is currently being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, with bail set at $15,650.
