Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On Wednesday, a mob in Nahan town, located in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, carried out a violent attack on a textile shop owned by a Muslim man. The incident was sparked by an image shared on WhatsApp, allegedly depicting “cattle slaughter.”

The mob, captured in videos that have since circulated on social media, can be seen looting and vandalising the shop while chanting “Jai Shri Ram.”

Authorities have yet to confirm if any arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

The shop’s owner, known as Javed, had reportedly left for his village in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district a few days before the attack took place.

Allegations and Confrontation

Prior to the attack, a man named Rajkumar from Banethi village in Sirmaur had posted a video on Facebook accusing Javed of sacrificing a cattle and sharing a picture of the act as his WhatsApp status.

These allegations emerged following the observance of Bakra Eid, a Muslim festival that involves the ritual slaughter of goats.

Rajkumar’s video urged locals to rally against the alleged cattle slaughter, leading to the violent confrontation that ensued on Wednesday.

Law Enforcement Response

Superintendent of Police Raman Kumar Meena confirmed that the mob forcibly entered and vandalised Javed’s shop. Subsequently, the group proceeded to the deputy commissioner’s office to demand legal action against Javed for allegedly causing religious offence under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code.

Meena assured that the situation was under control and that the demand for legal action was being reviewed.

Community Pressure and Intimidation

Following the incident, local branches of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, both associated with Hindutva ideology, issued a directive for seven Muslim traders from Saharanpur to vacate their shops in Nahan town within 24 hours. They also enforced a closure of the market on the day of the attack.
