PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – In a heartbreaking turn of events, two young children, a 2-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, lost their lives in a tragic drowning incident in Hamlin, West Virginia. The incident took place on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at around 9:30 pm on Scary Creek Road, prompting a swift response from Hamlin State Police units following a distress call received through Lincoln 911.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the lifeless bodies of the two toddlers in a nearby pond. Both children were rushed to Cabell Huntington Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where the 2-year-old girl was sadly pronounced deceased. The 3-year-old boy, meanwhile, remains in a stable condition but continues to receive critical care at the hospital.

The parents of the children, identified as 30-year-old Jack Parsons Jr. and 24-year-old Tara Adkins, have been arrested and charged with Child Neglect Resulting in Death and Child Neglect Creating a Risk of Injury in connection with the incident. They are currently being held at the Western Regional Jail pending arraignment.
