A family who runs a dojo in Katy, Texas, showcased their taekwondo skills in a heroic act to prevent a sexual assault, as reported by authorities.
The An family, with years of experience teaching taekwondo, found themselves in a situation where their training became crucial.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on a Tuesday, as the family was returning from lunch.
Simon An, aged 20, recounted hearing distressing screams coming from a nearby Cricket Wireless store.
“The second scream made it clear that someone needed help,” he stated.
Upon entering the store, 22-year-old Hannah An witnessed a disturbing scene.
“I saw a man on top of a woman, with the woman lying on the ground,” she described.
In a swift response, their father and grandmaster, Han An, subdued the suspect and pinned him down.
Han An maintained control of the suspect while Simon An and his younger brother, Christian An, assisted. Meanwhile, Hannah An and her mother, Hong An, escorted the victim to the family’s dojo.
“Our priority was ensuring the victim’s well-being after such a traumatic experience,” Hannah An explained.
Law enforcement arrived to find the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Alex Robinson, still restrained on the store floor.
Despite sustaining minor injuries during the intervention, Han An displayed composure and readiness to resume teaching his classes.
Expressing pride in his family’s actions, he remarked, “I am immensely proud of my family.”
The family expressed gratitude for being present at the right moment to prevent a tragedy.
In response to being hailed as heroes, Hannah An humbly remarked, “We appreciate the recognition, but believe anyone would have acted the same way.”
