Man Arrested for Attempted Burglary at Florida Bank

A man from Florida has been apprehended by authorities after allegedly attempting to burglarize a closed bank in Hobe Sound. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Colton Vanhonhenstien, was caught on surveillance footage purchasing a mask from a nearby gas station before entering the Wells Fargo branch on U.S 1.

The incident unfolded on Saturday evening when the bank’s security system detected a masked individual inside the building, prompting a swift response from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. However, upon arrival, law enforcement found the premises empty, with no sign of the suspect.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the alarm company had delayed notifying authorities for over an hour, allowing the perpetrator to evade capture. Fortunately, Vanhonhenstien’s purchase of the mask was captured on camera, leading to his arrest shortly after the incident.

Authorities have charged Vanhonhenstien with burglary offences, although the motive behind his attempted break-in remains unclear. Additionally, questions have been raised regarding the security lapses that allowed the suspect to gain access to the bank’s premises unnoticed.

The swift arrest of the suspect serves as a reminder of the importance of robust security measures in preventing criminal activities. As the investigation continues, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office is working to ensure the safety and security of local businesses and residents.
