Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – On June 13, 2024, a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper was called to the scene of a crash on Grant Creek Road. The trooper arrived to find a vehicle that had collided with a tree. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Christopher Nation, claimed to have a broken arm but refused medical assistance.

The trooper spoke with a witness who reported seeing Nation driving recklessly before the crash. The witness described a near head-on collision between Nation and another motorist, prompting him to turn around and check on Nation. However, when approached, Nation accelerated away and eventually crashed into a tree.

Investigation and Arrest

Upon speaking with Nation, the trooper detected the smell of alcohol on his breath and observed other signs of intoxication. Nation’s vehicle was littered with empty alcoholic beverage containers. Despite signs of impairment, Nation refused to cooperate with a DUI investigation and declined to provide a breath sample.

As a result, Nation was taken to Saint Patrick’s Hospital for medical clearance. However, he continued to be uncooperative and exhibited rude behavior towards medical staff. He refused to provide information about his injuries to the attending doctor.

Despite being read the Implied Consent Advisory and asked for a blood sample, Nation persistently refused and became verbally abusive towards both law enforcement and hospital staff. Consequently, he was placed under arrest and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. Nation is now facing charges of felony criminal endangerment, DUI, and disorderly conduct.

Legal Ramifications

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence. Nation’s reckless actions not only put his own life at risk but also endangered the lives of other motorists on the road. By refusing to cooperate with law enforcement and medical personnel, he has only exacerbated the legal consequences he now faces.

It is crucial for all drivers to prioritize safety on the road and to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The Montana Highway Patrol will continue to enforce strict laws against impaired driving to ensure the safety of all road users.
