Asheville, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Asheville Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a tragic accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 6:37 p.m. when a motorcyclist, identified as 68-year-old Chad Allen Nichols, was travelling westbound on I-40 near mile marker 53. Unfortunately, Nichols lost control of his motorcycle and veered off the road.

Tragically, Nichols succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. The Asheville Police Department has extended their condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Following the accident, all lanes of I-40 west from exits 55 to 53 were temporarily closed to allow officers to conduct their investigation and clear the scene.

The Asheville Police Department has confirmed that the investigation into the crash is currently ongoing. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could assist with the investigation to come forward and contact them at 828-252-1110.
