A man in Rock Hill, South Carolina, shot and killed a coworker in self-defense after she pointed a gun at him during an argument on Wednesday, according to detectives.

Tragic Incident

The shooting took place at around 3 p.m. along Riverwalk Parkway near Celriver Road, just east of Interstate 77 in Rock Hill. When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman who had been shot lying on the ground. She was rushed to Piedmont Medical Center, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by the Rock Hill Police department.

The man responsible for the shooting was immediately detained by officers upon their arrival. It was determined that the altercation between the man and the woman escalated as they were leaving work. The woman, along with a third person driving a car, attempted to block the man from leaving.

Act of Self-Defense

As the woman approached the man’s car with a gun, the man, fearing for his safety, pulled out a handgun and fired in self-defense, resulting in the woman’s death. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Brittney Reed, allegedly assaulted the man after the shooting. The man, in a state of shock, instructed Reed to stay away as he awaited the arrival of law enforcement.

Rock Hill police have confirmed that the man will not face charges as the shooting was deemed an act of self-defense. However, Reed has been charged with assault and battery. Two firearms were recovered at the scene, but the identity of the deceased woman has not been disclosed by authorities.
