A high-speed chase on Interstate 75 in Broward County last month resulted in the apprehension of a 17-year-old teenager and two other individuals, all captured on camera by Florida Highway Patrol officers.
The incident unfolded on May 21 when officers spotted a silver Kia Sportage travelling at an alarming speed of 107 mph on the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 36. The vehicle, driven by Torey Trachson Hollis, refused to pull over despite the FHP trooper’s attempts to signal it to stop.
In a daring move, FHP executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to stop the fleeing vehicle, eventually bringing it to a halt near mile marker 32. Upon inspection of the car, officers discovered Hollis with two other teens inside, who all attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended.
A search of the stolen vehicle revealed incriminating evidence, including a handgun, multiple credit and ID cards, and tools commonly used for vehicle theft. The SUV, confirmed to be stolen from Collier County, showed signs of tampering and was missing its key.
The three suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Broward County Juvenile Assessment Center. They are facing charges such as grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, fleeing law enforcement at high speed, possession of stolen identification, and illegal possession of a firearm.
The identities of the two other teenagers involved in the incident have not been disclosed, and the motive behind their actions remains unclear at this time.
