At least five people, including a woman and her three daughters, lost their lives in a devastating landslide incident that occurred in the Badarpur area of Assam’s Karimganj district late Tuesday night. The tragic incident also claimed the life of a three-year-old boy, bringing the total death toll to five.
Partha Protim Das, the Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, provided details of the incident, stating that it took place at Gainachora (Bendargool) village under the jurisdiction of Badarpur police station.
“Last night at 12.45 am, information was received about a landslide in the Gainachora (Bendargool) village area under the Badarpur police station. Upon receiving the information, the officer-in-charge of Badarpur police station, along with his staff and SDRF personnel, rushed to the spot to conduct a rescue operation. After three hours of intense efforts, the rescue team managed to recover five bodies from the debris,” said Partha Protim Das.
The victims of the tragic incident were identified as members of the same family. They were named as Roymun Nessa (55 years old) and her three daughters – Sahida Khanam (18), Jahida Khanam (16), and Hamida Khanam (11). The youngest victim, a three-year-old boy, was identified as Mehdi Hassan, the son of Mahimuddin.
