Man sentenced for robbing former workplace in Charlotte, North Carolina, shooting several coworkers, officials report

U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Dena King, has confirmed that a man from Charlotte has been handed down a sentence in connection with an armed robbery and shooting incident at his former workplace.
According to court documents, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a shooting and robbery at the Fish House North, an adult arcade game business, on July 26, 2021. The responding officers found three victims – an employee, his wife, and a security guard – all with gunshot wounds and severe injuries.
The victims identified the perpetrator as 49-year-old Robert Lee Barringer, a former employee who had been fired a month prior to the incident. Barringer allegedly attempted to force his way into the business, shooting at the victims and demanding money from the register. He made off with $3,500 before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement arrested Barringer on July 28, 2021, and recovered 17 cartridge casings from the crime scene. Barringer was found guilty of interference with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm during a violent crime on August 5, 2022.
Barringer, who has a history of criminal convictions, including assault and firearm possession, has been sentenced to over 34 years in prison, with an additional five years of supervised release. He will remain in federal custody until he is transferred to a designated facility by the Bureau of Prisons.
