Mumbai, 19th June (PTI) – A case has been registered against a 46-year-old hotelier from Worli in Mumbai, along with his elderly parents, on charges of assaulting his wife and subjecting her to mental torture, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The victim, a 43-year-old woman, alleged in her complaint that her husband, identified as Prahlad Advani, not only demanded money from her parents but also accused her of having an extra-marital affair. The complaint, lodged on June 13, also named Advani’s 85-year-old father Sundargurdas and 78-year-old mother Menaka as co-accused.
Advani, who owns and operates a luxury beach resort as part of his hotel and resorts business in Goa, allegedly subjected his wife, Shahana, to torture between November 2012 and June 2014. The police have registered a case of criminal breach of trust, voluntarily causing hurt, and intentional insult based on her complaint.
According to the FIR, Advani had demanded a wristwatch worth Rs 5 lakh at the time of their wedding, which was provided by the victim’s father. In 2017, when the complainant’s father sold his property in Manali, Advani and his parents demanded a share in the proceeds. When the victim refused, Advani allegedly assaulted her and subjected her to physical and mental abuse.
Furthermore, the woman accused her husband of constantly suspecting her of having an extra-marital affair.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Advani and his family released a statement, stating, “It is unfortunate that the police are being used to settle a matrimonial discord. No notice or summons has been received by any family member for investigation purposes.” The spokesperson also alleged that a similar complaint submitted to the N M Joshi Marg police station had been suppressed by the complainant.
“We can prove that the allegations are false and fabricated. The complaint is full of inaccurate and false statements,” the statement added.
