In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 46-year-old hotelier from Worli, Mumbai, along with his elderly parents, has been accused of assaulting his wife and subjecting her to mental torture. The victim, a 43-year-old woman, filed a complaint against her husband, Prahlad Advani, and his parents, Sundargurdas (85) and Menaka (78), on June 13.
The victim alleged that her husband demanded money from her parents and also falsely accused her of having an extra-marital affair. Prahlad Advani is the owner of a luxury beach resort in Goa, which is part of his hotel and resorts business.
According to the complaint, the abuse continued from November 2012 to June 12, 2024. The case has been registered for criminal breach of trust, voluntarily causing hurt, and intentional insult. The accused hotelier not only physically assaulted his wife but also inflicted mental torture on her.
One of the disturbing incidents mentioned in the FIR was when Prahlad Advani demanded a wristwatch worth Rs 5 lakh as a wedding gift, which was fulfilled by the victim’s father. In 2017, when the complainant’s father sold his property in Manali, Advani and his parents started pressuring for a share in the proceeds.
When the victim refused to comply with their demands, Advani allegedly resorted to physical and mental abuse. The victim also accused her husband of constantly suspecting her of having an extra-marital affair, adding to her distress.
This case sheds light on the prevalence of domestic violence and mental abuse within families and the need for stricter laws and enforcement to protect victims. The police are investigating the matter further to ensure justice is served.
