The family of Octavia Aquino, the young girl who was found unresponsive on Sunday, has made the decision to donate her organs in the hopes of saving another child’s life.

The authorities in Indiana were alerted to the situation when they received a distress call regarding a 4-year-old girl who was not breathing. Upon arrival at the apartment where Octavia was found, an officer described her as “cold to the touch,” indicating the severity of the situation.

Efforts to revive Octavia were made by first responders from the Evansville Fire Department, but tragically, she did not survive. The young girl’s mother, Destiny Rhoades, was reportedly at work when the incident occurred.

Further details emerged as police investigated the circumstances surrounding Octavia’s death. It was revealed that the 16-year-old boyfriend of Octavia’s mother, Christian Gonzalez, was present in the apartment along with three other women who resided there. One of the roommates mentioned seeing bruises on Octavia’s body, particularly around her neck, and a human bite mark on her forearm.

Detectives learned that Gonzalez had admitted to biting the child, claiming it was in response to her biting him first. As a result, Gonzalez was taken into police custody on charges including murder, while Octavia’s mother, Destiny Rhoades, also faced charges related to neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

In a heartbreaking statement on GoFundMe, Octavia’s grandmother, Linda Alvarez, expressed the family’s grief and shared the decision to donate Octavia’s organs. She described Octavia as a “sweet, beautiful, and innocent girl” whose life was tragically cut short by the actions of others.

Despite the pain of their loss, Octavia’s family decided to honour her memory by organising an honor walk at the hospital and choosing to donate her organs to help other children in need. Alvarez highlighted the importance of this decision, stating that Octavia could be a hero and live on through the lives she may save.

As the family grapples with the emotional and financial burden of planning Octavia’s funeral, they have set up a GoFundMe account to seek assistance from the community. Alvarez expressed gratitude for any support received and asked for continued prayers for their family during this difficult time.
