Nithya Ramani : “Maryland Trooper Hit by Impaired Driver in Work Zone”

A Maryland State Trooper was struck by a suspected impaired driver this morning while sitting inside his patrol vehicle, according to Maryland State Police.

According to the official statement released by the authorities, the individual accused of the incident is Nithya Ramani, aged 37, from Montgomery Village, Maryland. Ramani has been charged with driving under the influence. She was the sole occupant and driver of a red Honda Accord that was involved in the collision. Fortunately, she escaped the incident without any injuries.

The unfortunate incident took place shortly after 1:00 a.m. today, when the state trooper was stationed in his marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights activated in lane 1 of a work zone on the outer loop I-495 and Greentree Road in Montgomery County. The lanes were clearly marked with orange traffic cones, arrow boards, and signs cautioning drivers about the work zone ahead.

Initial investigations suggest that the driver of the red Honda, later identified as Ramani, veered into the work zone and collided with the right rear of the trooper’s patrol vehicle. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene following the crash.

Upon arrival at the scene, troopers from the Rockville Barrack noticed signs of impairment in Ramani, leading to her immediate arrest.

The trooper involved in the incident did not require transportation from the scene. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
