A trooper in Montgomery County was involved in a collision early Wednesday morning when a driver struck his patrol vehicle while he was inside. The incident occurred in a marked work zone on the outer loop of Interstate 495 and Greentree Road in Bethesda.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, the Maryland State Trooper was parked in his marked vehicle with emergency lights on, indicating that it was a work zone. The lane where the trooper’s vehicle was stationed, as well as another lane, were both blocked off with traffic cones, an arrow board, and signs alerting drivers about the work zone ahead.
An investigation into the incident revealed that the driver of a Honda, identified as 37-year-old Nithya Ramani from Montgomery Village, drove into the marked work zone and collided with the trooper’s patrol vehicle from the right rear-end.
Fortunately, neither the trooper nor Ramani sustained any injuries in the collision. However, troopers at the scene suspected that Ramani was impaired and subsequently arrested her for driving under the influence.
Further Investigation and Actions Taken
Ramani was the sole occupant of the Honda at the time of the incident. Both vehicles involved in the collision were towed from the area, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.
