SALT LAKE CITY — Over three weeks after the tragic shooting death of 30-year-old Nico Christopher Patino in Salt Lake City, police have made an arrest in connection with the case. Abdihakim Mohamed, a 19-year-old, has been taken into custody and booked on one count of aggravated murder, according to a report from the Salt Lake City Police Department.
The incident took place on May 26 in the Glendale neighborhood of Salt Lake City, specifically in the area of 1800 West Fortune Road. Patino was found by officers with gunshot wounds and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Initially, no suspects were identified or arrested following the shooting. Authorities reached out to the public for any information or leads that could assist in the investigation.
However, in a recent update, the Salt Lake City Police announced that their Homicide Squad and Gang Unit collaborated to identify Mohamed as one of the shooters involved in the incident.
According to officials, Mohamed and other suspects allegedly attended an after-hours event at a warehouse where the shooting took place. After shooting Patino, they fled the scene in a vehicle. Mohamed was apprehended on Wednesday, and a loaded firearm was recovered during the arrest.
The motive behind the shooting is still being investigated, and details about any additional suspects have not been disclosed at this time.
