Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from Missouri, Nicholas Brit Engelhardt, has been charged with two counts of child endangerment after allegedly involving two young girls in a street race and subsequent police chase. The incident took place in a parking lot just north of Route 210 near North Pleasant Avenue on Sunday, June 16.

Clay County deputies were alerted to a potential street race and side show happening in the area. Upon arrival, they observed a cloud of smoke hanging over the parking lot and witnessed several individuals driving recklessly and performing burnouts, while a large group of spectators looked on.

As deputies approached the scene, people and vehicles scattered in an attempt to evade law enforcement. It was at this moment that Engelhardt, aged 27, nearly collided with a deputy’s car with his truck. The deputy then initiated a pursuit by activating his lights and sirens in an effort to stop the vehicle.

Despite the deputy’s attempts to pull him over, Engelhardt refused to comply and led the officers on a high-speed chase. Court documents reveal that speeds reached up to 62 mph in a 40 mph zone as Engelhardt evaded road spikes deployed by law enforcement.

In a dangerous manoeuvre, Engelhardt drove into oncoming traffic to avoid the spikes and continued to travel at speeds exceeding 80 mph while driving on the wrong side of the road. The pursuit only came to an end after Engelhardt’s truck hit another set of road spikes.

Upon apprehending Engelhardt, deputies discovered a woman and two young girls in the vehicle. The children, who were later identified as Engelhardt’s fiancée and her two daughters, were found to be unrestrained and not seated in booster seats during the entirety of the chase.

During a subsequent police interview, Engelhardt claimed that he had attended the street races to pick up his brother and decided to flee when law enforcement arrived, citing fear as his motive for evading arrest.

Engelhardt is scheduled to appear in court next month to face the charges of child endangerment brought against him as a result of the reckless incident.
