A drunken Thai man sustained a severe head injury after being assaulted by an older individual he taunted, purportedly due to his advanced age, in the vicinity of Pattaya on the evening of June 18th, 2024.

The altercation took place on the roadside near Wat Huai Yai in the Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Upon receiving a distress call at 9:36 PM, Huai Yai police and emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers encountered a group surrounding a 36-year-old Thai man, identified as Mr. Wirayuth Chomthalak. Mr. Wirayuth had sustained a significant laceration to his head from a sharp object, resulting in profuse bleeding. He appeared inebriated, and first aid was administered by rescue personnel before he was transported to the nearest medical facility.

The alleged assailant, a 58-year-old man named Mr. Thongchai Tiendang, also suffered injuries. Civilians assisted in apprehending Mr. Thongchai prior to the police’s arrival.

According to Mr. Wirayuth, he was acquainted with the attacker and asserted that he was simply jesting with Mr. Thongchai. However, Mr. Thongchai seemingly took offense to the banter and proceeded to assault Mr. Wirayuth with a machete.

Conversely, Mr. Thongchai contended that he typically did not mind light-hearted jests about his age. Nevertheless, on this occasion, he interpreted Mr. Wirayuth’s intoxicated state as a threat, prompting him to react impulsively by grabbing a machete and attacking Mr. Wirayuth, who retaliated with a baseball bat.

Huai Yai police detained the suspect and are currently conducting an ongoing investigation.
