In a harrowing incident late Tuesday night in Cedar Falls, a police officer is recovering after being thrown from a vehicle that sped away from a routine traffic stop. The incident occurred in the 100 block of E 4th Street at approximately 11:54 p.m.

The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, had pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop when the driver suddenly accelerated, dragging the officer along with the vehicle. The officer was eventually thrown from the vehicle, sustaining injuries that required hospital treatment. Fortunately, the officer has since been released from the hospital and is recovering.

Following the incident, the driver of the vehicle was identified as Mackenzie Christensen. Christensen was apprehended by law enforcement and now faces multiple charges, including Driving while Barred, Eluding, and Assault while Participating in a Felony.
