Kenneth Briddnell Carroll

A speeding driver who caused a fatal crash after fleeing Auburn Hills police earlier this month is now facing nine felony charges.

Kenneth Briddnell Carroll, a resident of Lake Orion, appeared in court on Tuesday to face charges including first-degree fleeing, reckless driving causing death, and possession of a controlled substance, among others.

The incident unfolded when an officer attempted to pull over Carroll, who was driving a 2020 Kia Forte at high speeds on Lapeer Road around 7 p.m. on June 6. Carroll refused to stop and led the officer on a chase, reaching speeds of up to 88 mph before the pursuit was called off.

Following the chase, the officer noticed Carroll’s vehicle go over a hill on Lapeer Road before witnessing a collision at the intersection of Walton Boulevard and Perry Street. The crash involved Carroll’s Kia and a 2002 Ford F-150, resulting in the death of the F-150 driver, a 68-year-old man from Auburn Hills.

After the crash, Carroll fled the scene on foot, leaving behind his female passenger who was critically injured. He was apprehended the following day after being discovered by a member of the public in a wooded area near the crash site.

Carroll now faces serious charges for his actions, including fleeing the scene of an accident and causing death and serious injury through reckless driving. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of the innocent victim.
