SEDGWICK COUNTY —A male suspect who was involved in a two-hour standoff at a residential complex in Wichita has made his initial court appearance following the incident.
Jonathan Ross, aged 41 and a resident of Wichita, has been formally charged with aggravated criminal threat, two counts of aggravated assault, criminal threat, domestic battery, and two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits, as confirmed by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office. The last three charges are classified as misdemeanours.
The events unfolded just before 1 p.m. on June 12, when law enforcement officers were summoned to an apartment block located in the 600 block of E Douglas in Wichita. Upon arrival, a female individual reported that she had been physically assaulted and threatened with a weapon by a male companion with whom she shared a residence.
The suspect, subsequently identified as Jonathan Ross, aged 41, refused to cooperate with police and barricaded himself inside the apartment.
At approximately 3 p.m., the Wichita Police SWAT team was deployed to the scene and initiated negotiations with the suspect. As a precautionary measure, all nearby businesses and residential units were evacuated, and vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the vicinity was temporarily prohibited. Following a tense two-hour standoff, law enforcement officers successfully apprehended Ross.
As of now, Ross remains in custody with a bail set at £125,000, according to the district attorney’s office.
