A man accused of killing his mother in Rio Vista last month pleaded not guilty in Solano County Superior Court on Monday morning. Jeffrey Clyde Aidnik, 58, appeared before Judge John B. Ellis and questioned the order for a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 12 at the Vallejo Justice Building.
During his last arraignment, Aidnik was represented by Deputy Public Defender Jeannette Garcia. Prior felony charges and enhancements were denied. Assistant District Attorney Ilana Shapiro previously represented the DA’s office. Chief Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn filed the criminal complaint on May 15.
Aidnik faces one count of murder, as well as enhancements for being a previously convicted felon and a charge of resisting arrest. The criminal complaint alleges that Aidnik killed his mother between May 10 and 13 in her Rio Vista home.
According to Solano County Jail records, Aidnik was arrested by Rio Vista police officers at 1:30 p.m. on May 13 in the 500 block of Birch Ridge Drive. He was booked into jail without bail the following morning.
Rio Vista Police Chief Jon Mazer confirmed that officers arrested Aidnik after his mother’s body was found in a Trilogy home the day before. Police responded to a welfare check request at the home, where they located the suspect. After a brief struggle, Aidnik was taken into custody with minor injuries, and no officers were harmed during the arrest.
Inside the home, the police discovered the body of a 78-year-old woman, later identified as Aidnik’s mother. Solano County Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Mazer stated that the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death were still under investigation at the time.
The case is set to continue with the preliminary hearing in August, where more details are expected to emerge in the ongoing investigation.
