A man accused of killing his mother in Rio Vista last month has pleaded not guilty in Solano County Superior Court.
Jeffrey Clyde Aidnik, 58, entered his plea on Monday morning before Judge John B. Ellis. He has been ordered to appear for a preliminary hearing on August 12 at the Vallejo Justice Building.
During his previous arraignment, Aidnik, represented by Deputy Public Defender Jeannette Garcia, had his prior felony charges and enhancements denied. Assistant District Attorney Ilana Shapiro has been representing the District Attorney’s office in this case.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn filed the criminal complaint against Aidnik on May 15.
Aidnik is facing one count of murder, along with enhancements for being a previously convicted felon and a charge of resisting arrest.
The criminal complaint alleges that Aidnik killed his mother sometime between May 10 and 13 in her Rio Vista residence.
Records from the Solano County Jail show that Aidnik was arrested by Rio Vista police officers on May 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Birch Ridge Drive. He was booked into jail without bail early the next morning.
Rio Vista Police Chief Jon Mazer confirmed that Aidnik was apprehended after his mother’s body was discovered in a Trilogy home the day before.
Police were called to conduct a welfare check at the residence and found Aidnik at the scene. Following a brief struggle, he was taken into custody without any injuries to the officers. Inside the home, the body of a 78-year-old woman was found, later identified as Aidnik’s mother.
Upon discovering the woman’s body, Rio Vista officers requested assistance from Solano County Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime scene investigators, who arrived at the scene shortly after. Mazer stated that the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death are still under investigation.
This tragic incident has shocked the community of Rio Vista and left many residents reeling from the news of a son allegedly taking the life of his own mother. As the case progresses through the legal system, more details are expected to emerge regarding the events leading up to this horrific crime.
