Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man accused of murdering his mother in Rio Vista last month has pleaded not guilty in Solano County Superior Court. Jeffrey Clyde Aidnik, 58, appeared before Judge John B. Ellis and was ordered to return for a preliminary hearing setting on August 12 at the Justice Building in Vallejo.

Represented by Deputy Public Defender Jeannette Garcia, Aidnik denied any prior felonies and enhancements. Deputy District Attorney Ilana Shapiro, who has previously represented the DA’s office, is handling the case. Chief Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn filed the criminal complaint on May 15.

The charges against Aidnik include felony murder, enhancements for being a previously convicted felon, and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. The criminal complaint alleges that Aidnik killed his mother between May 10 and 13 at her Rio Vista residence.

Following his arrest on May 13 in the 500 block of Birch Ridge Drive, Aidnik was booked into Solano County Jail without bail. Rio Vista Police Chief Jon Mazer confirmed that Aidnik was taken into custody after officers discovered the body of his 78-year-old mother in a Trilogy home.

Upon receiving a request for a welfare check at the residence, Rio Vista police officers found Aidnik at the scene. After a brief struggle, he was arrested with minor injuries. No officers were harmed during the arrest. The victim was later identified as Aidnik’s mother.

Authorities called in Solano County Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime scene investigators to assist with the investigation. At the time, details surrounding the woman’s death were still being looked into.
