Hall County, Nebraska (WOIO) – A 22-year-old man from Elyria, Ohio, was arrested for murder and several other charges in Nebraska on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at a rest area located on Interstate 80 where Hall County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a disturbance around 7 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered two victims who had been assaulted with a knife. Tragically, a 72-year-old man from Eureka, Missouri, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The second victim, a 71-year-old woman from the same location, suffered life-threatening injuries and is currently in critical condition.
The suspect, identified as James Thompson Jr., fled the scene but was later apprehended by the Nebraska State Patrol. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from an attempted robbery.
The victims have been identified as Gary and Mary Weaver, a husband and wife who were travelling through Nebraska in their mobile home at the time of the attack.
