Accident – Death – Obituary News : A business student has been identified as the suspect in a tragic fatal stabbing that took place on the University of Southern California’s Greek Row. Ivan Gallegos, a 19-year-old student, was arrested after police responded to calls about a 27-year-old homeless man who had sustained stab wounds during an altercation. The homeless man, believed to have been burglarizing cars, was found struggling with multiple stab wounds, and unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Gallegos, who is currently being held on a $2 million bond, was apprehended by authorities after the incident, which occurred on Monday evening. Two of his fraternity brothers from Delta Tau Delta were reportedly present during the altercation but were not taken into custody.
According to reports from KTLA, the incident unfolded after Gallegos allegedly confronted the homeless man, who was believed to be armed. Despite claims of self-defense from the 19-year-old student, no firearm was recovered at the scene by law enforcement officials.
The tragic event has left students in the area shaken, with many expressing concerns about the prevalence of crime in the vicinity. Liam Shi, a resident of Greek Row, shared his thoughts with KTLA, stating, “When a lot of this stuff occurs repetitively, you have a lot more students who want to be proactive. I don’t even know what I would’ve done in that situation.”
Gallegos’ mother, Violet Gallegos, described her son as a “good kid,” despite the challenging environment he grew up in, surrounded by gang-related activities. The police report revealed that Ivan had navigated through his parents’ involvement in gang activities during his childhood, ultimately focusing on music as a positive outlet. Gallegos is known for his musical talents, playing EDM and corridos/reggaeton fusion, and he also founded a community-driven group called Herencia Los Angeles to give back to the community.
As the legal process unfolds, Gallegos’ future remains uncertain, as charges have not yet been filed against him by the district attorney. The 19-year-old, who has no prior criminal record, cooperated with the authorities at the scene of the incident.
