Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man from Southington, Edward Pratte, has been arrested and charged with fraud for allegedly using a deceased woman’s credit card to make unauthorized purchases. This incident occurred approximately a month after the woman, Alexandra Standish, tragically lost her life in a driveway accident in Wolcott, Connecticut.

According to the Wolcott Police Department, Pratte, 41, is facing charges of illegal use of a credit card, payment card fraud, and fifth-degree larceny. He was taken into custody last Friday and later posted a $5,000 bond. Pratte is expected to appear in Waterbury Superior Court next Tuesday, as per court records.

The arrest of Pratte is linked to his association with Brandon Hamel, who was reportedly dating Alexandra Standish at the time of her fatal accident. Standish, 37, was run over in a driveway on Central Avenue in Wolcott on February 10 under tragic circumstances.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Reports suggest that Standish, Hamel, and another individual, James Sadlowski, were out drinking on the night of the incident. Following the accident, there was a delay in getting Standish the necessary medical attention, as neither Hamel nor Sadlowski contacted emergency services.

Standish was eventually transported to Bristol Hospital, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries. Both Hamel and Sadlowski have been charged in connection with her death, with authorities alleging that Hamel obstructed the investigation into how Standish sustained her injuries.

Allegations of Credit Card Fraud

The father of Alexandra Standish raised concerns with the Wolcott police after discovering that his late daughter’s credit card had been used to make purchases at a car company in Utah. Notably, Hamel was listed as an authorized user on the account, despite being hospitalized following a separate motorcycle accident.

Further investigations revealed that the purchases, amounting to approximately $637, were made for software upgrades related to vehicle performance. Pratte was identified as the individual who made the purchases, using billing information belonging to Hamel.

Additionally, it came to light that Standish had a life insurance policy, with Hamel named as the beneficiary. Following her passing, Hamel reportedly sought guidance on claiming the insurance funds, along with Pratte’s involvement in attempting to gain control over Hamel’s financial affairs.

Legal Ramifications

As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that Pratte had presented questionable documents, including a power of attorney designation, which raised suspicions about the legitimacy of his actions. Hamel and Sadlowski are currently facing serious charges in connection with Standish’s death, and the legal proceedings are ongoing.
