A dramatic manhunt in New York City came to a close on Tuesday when 23-year-old Angela Sauretti spotted a man in a black hoodie entering the 108th Street Grocery in Queens at 1 a.m.
Sauretti immediately recognized the man as the suspect featured in an NYPD wanted poster on Instagram. The man was wanted in connection with the machete-point rape of a 13-year-old girl in a park last week.
After confirming with a friend who had also seen the police posting, Sauretti took matters into her own hands. She confronted the man and restrained him in a headlock when he attempted to flee.
Despite the man’s resistance, Sauretti and other concerned citizens took action to ensure he did not escape. Additional individuals joined in, including 67-year-old Isabel Caizado, who struck the man with her shoe.
Street Justice Prevails
During the scuffle, the man’s hoodie and T-shirt were removed, revealing a distinctive tattoo on his chest that matched the description provided by the NYPD. Sauretti’s quick thinking and bravery were instrumental in detaining the suspect.
The suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, was an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador. He had crossed the southern border into the United States in 2021.
Following the arrest, Sauretti spoke with detectives and learned that their actions constituted a citizen’s arrest. She expressed that the $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture was not her motivation, as she believed it was the right thing to do.

Despite the intensity of the situation, Sauretti remained composed and resolute in her actions. She credited her strong sense of self to her upbringing and personal experiences.
Reflecting on the incident, Sauretti expressed regret over the damage to her wristwatch during the struggle but maintained that material possessions were of little concern compared to the safety of the community.
