Following a tragic shooting at a busy intersection in Lebanon, Ohio, on Monday, 911 calls have shed light on the immediate aftermath of the incident. The call to emergency dispatch came from the alleged shooter, who claimed self-defence in what witnesses described as a road rage altercation in Warren County.
The incident took place around 11:50 a.m. on Monday, prompting reports of a shooting near the intersection of North State Route 48 Bypass and U.S. Route 42. Sadly, the gunshot victim, identified as 63-year-old Andrew Rainey from Lebanon, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Monday at 4 p.m.
Authorities released the 911 call made by the shooter shortly after the gunfire, revealing a tense exchange with the dispatcher. The caller admitted to shooting the victim, claiming that he acted in self-defence as the victim attempted to assault him. The dispatcher instructed the caller to ensure the safety of his firearm and cooperate with law enforcement upon their arrival.
At present, investigators have not disclosed the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell issued a statement acknowledging their involvement in the case, emphasizing the collection of evidence and information for a thorough investigation. Fornshell stated that once the investigation concludes, their office will review all evidence to determine potential charges to be presented to the grand jury.
Family and friends of Andrew Rainey gathered on Tuesday to honour his memory. Described as a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren, Rainey’s tragic death has left a void in the community.
