A pedestrian was taken to the hospital after being struck by a car on the pavement before the vehicle crashed through a metal fence into the front garden of a residence in Bridgeport on Monday.
The Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center received multiple reports around 11:40 a.m. on Monday concerning a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on East Main Street, as per the Bridgeport Police Department.
According to police, witnesses stated that a black Audi hit a pedestrian and smashed through a fence into the front yard of 1109 East Main Street. Emergency services, including the Bridgeport Fire Department, American Medical Response, and Bridgeport police officers, were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers found the pedestrian, a 27-year-old man from Bridgeport, lying on the ground with severe injuries. The man was given immediate medical attention and subsequently transported to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
The driver of the Audi Q5, a 26-year-old woman from Bridgeport, was located and taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center for treatment, as reported by police.
The Bridgeport Police Serious Crash Team was called to the location to investigate the incident. An initial examination revealed that the 2011 Audi Q5 was travelling north on East Main Street when it allegedly swerved into the northbound lane, colliding with the pedestrian on the pavement. The vehicle then continued into a metal fence before coming to a stop in the front garden of the property on East Main Street.
Following medical treatment, the 26-year-old driver was placed under arrest for an unrelated matter, according to police sources.
