COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man has been taken into custody after allegedly forcing his way through a fast food drive-through window and attacking an employee at a Wendy’s restaurant in east Columbus.
Authorities were alerted to the incident on May 30 at a Wendy’s location on East Main Street in the Eastmoor neighbourhood. Two employees recounted to the police that at 5:50 a.m., a man began banging on the drive-through window, holding up a mobile phone displaying the name of the store manager, insinuating that there was a call for him.
Upon the assumption that the manager wished to speak with him, one employee opened the window. The man then inquired about a female colleague who was also present inside the Wendy’s, even though the restaurant had not yet opened for business. Subsequently, as one of the employees left to locate the other, the man proceeded to climb through the drive-through window in pursuit of the woman.
identified as 44-year-old William Foster, the man followed the woman to the manager’s office and allegedly struck her multiple times on the head, causing her to collapse. Foster reportedly confiscated the woman’s cellphone before departing from the office.
After the woman regained her footing, she made a dash from the office and exited through the drive-through window. She attempted to enter Foster’s vehicle through the driver’s side door, prompting him to push her away before departing the scene.
Subsequently, the victim’s mobile phone was discovered within the restaurant, and the entire altercation was captured on the establishment’s surveillance system.
During the investigation, the manager positively identified Foster from a photo lineup. The manager informed the authorities that both Foster and the victim were residing in his basement.
Admitting to the assault upon interrogation, Foster was apprehended on Saturday and presented before a judge at Franklin County Municipal Court on Monday. He has been charged with aggravated robbery and was granted a bond of £750,000. Foster’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 25 for a preliminary hearing.
