Nagpur: A tragic incident unfolded in Nagpur on Monday when a car crashed into a group of people sleeping on a footpath, resulting in two fatalities and seven injuries. The heart-wrenching event occurred in the Dighori area of the city and the vehicle was reportedly being driven by an engineering student under the influence of alcohol.
Details of the Accident
The devastating accident occurred around 12:40 am, catching the unsuspecting victims off guard. Among the injured individuals, four were children, adding to the severity of the situation. The affected family, who sells toys for a living, was left shattered by the sudden tragedy.
Alleged Inebriated Drivers
Reports suggest that a group of six students, aged between 20-21, had been reveling at a birthday party prior to the accident. Allegedly intoxicated, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle, veering onto the footpath and causing the fatal collision. In a panic-stricken attempt to escape, the driver made erratic movements with the car before being apprehended.
Official Confirmation and Legal Proceedings
Vijay Sagar, DCP Zone 4 Nagpur, has confirmed the involvement of “drunk driving” in the tragic incident. A case has been registered against the responsible individuals under relevant sections, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. In a bid to bring justice to the victims, a local court has granted police custody of all occupants of the car until June 19.
