Police Release New Details About Shooting Incident
On Tuesday, Arlington police shared video footage and additional information about the incident that took place at the park. The incident involved officers shooting and killing a man who had previously shot and injured a woman at the location.
Authorities received a disturbance call regarding a man, later identified as Shannon Boyd, 42, of Irving, and a 40-year-old woman with whom he had a prior long-term relationship. The incident occurred in the 6500 block of S. Cooper Street around 10:30 p.m. on June 9.

According to Arlington Police Chief Al Jones, Boyd followed the woman and a friend into the park. Upon arrival, Boyd instructed the friend to leave, prompting the friend to call 911 as he exited the park.
Shortly after, Boyd pulled out a handgun and fired at the woman multiple times as officers arrived at the scene. The video footage suggests that Boyd attempted to fire a fourth shot, possibly at himself, but missed. In response, officers discharged their weapons, striking Boyd.

Further investigation revealed that Boyd and the woman had a history of domestic violence, with the woman having previously reported incidents of abuse to the authorities. Just hours before the shooting, the woman had called 911 to report an altercation with Boyd at a restaurant where he allegedly threatened her with a gun.
