Accident – Death – Obituary News : An investigation is currently underway following a tragic single-vehicle crash in Huron County, Ohio. The incident occurred on Monday, June 17, at approximately 11:27 p.m. on West River Road in Wakeman. Ohio State Highway Patrol officials have indicated that alcohol, speed, and drug use are suspected to be contributing factors in this devastating crash.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Jeep Wrangler was travelling southbound on West River Road when it veered off the right side of the roadway and collided with a culvert storm drain cover. The impact caused the Jeep to become airborne, flipping over several times before ultimately crashing into a large raised flower bed, fence post, and tree. The vehicle finally came to a stop in a private driveway on the west side of West River Road.
Tragically, the driver of the Jeep, identified as 37-year-old Shane Webb from Willard, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident.
After conducting an initial investigation, authorities have reason to believe that the use of alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed may have played a role in the crash. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted in their response by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Wakeman Fire Department, Wakeman Police Department, Citizens Ambulance, and Interstate Towing.
