The family of 4-year-old Octavia Aquino from Fort Wayne, Indiana has made the selfless decision to donate her organs following her tragic death. This compassionate act of generosity will potentially save the lives of other children in need of organ transplants.
On the morning of the incident, officers were called to the 4500 block of Spring Valley Road after reports of a young female not breathing. Upon arrival, they discovered Octavia unresponsive in the apartment. Despite efforts to revive her, she was later pronounced dead at an Evansville hospital.
Octavia’s mother, 23-year-old Destiny F. Rhoades, was at work at the time of the incident and rushed back to the apartment upon hearing the news. Her 16-year-old boyfriend and three other adult females who also resided in the apartment were present during the tragic discovery.
While the cause of Octavia’s death remains unknown pending autopsy results, her family has chosen to honour her memory by donating her viable organs. This final act of kindness will allow Octavia to live on in the lives of those who receive her organs.

On Tuesday night, Octavia will be taken on her final journey through the hospital for an honour walk, a touching tribute to her life and the gift of organ donation. This gesture serves as a reminder of Octavia’s innocence and the joy she brought to everyone she met.
“She should be remembered as just an innocent sweet little, helpless girl who brought joy to everyone she met. You didn’t have to know her to love her. We figured that she could be a miracle for someone else. Let her live on.”
