Authorities in Middlesex County, New Jersey, have apprehended an Indian-origin man named Gaurav Gill in connection with a fatal shooting that took place in Carteret, NJ. The incident resulted in the death of a Punjabi woman, identified as Jasvir Kaur, and left another woman critically injured.
Gill, a 19-year-old resident of Kent, WA, has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and multiple weapon-related offences. He is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center pending further legal proceedings.
The tragic event unfolded on June 12, 2024, and prompted a swift investigation by local law enforcement agencies. Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led the initial probe that led to Gill’s arrest.
The deceased victim, Jasvir Kaur, 29, and the accused, Gaurav Gill, reportedly had acquaintances dating back to their time attending IELTS coaching classes together in Jalandhar, a city in the north Indian state of Punjab.
The Indian Consulate in New York expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the family of Jasvir Kaur and pledging to liaise with local authorities to monitor the case closely.
