Accident – Death – Obituary News : An Indian woman lost her life in a tragic incident, while another woman was left critically injured after a 19-year-old Indian man reportedly opened fire on them outside a residential building in New Jersey on June 12. The suspect, identified as Gaurav Gill from Kent, Washington, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Jasvir Kaur, aged 29, tragically succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while Gagandeep Kaur, aged 20, is currently in critical condition at University Hospital Newark.
The assailant, Gaurav Gill, is facing a slew of charges, including first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and attempted murder. He appeared before a judge at Middlesex County Court on June 13 and is scheduled for a detention hearing on June 18. Authorities have yet to disclose a motive for the shooting or any connection between Gill and the victims.
According to reports from the Times of India, Gaurav Gill and Gagandeep Kaur were acquainted and had allegedly met at an IELTS coaching centre in Nakodar, Punjab. Gagandeep had travelled to the US on a student visa and had been residing with her cousin Jasvir in New Jersey. Jasvir, who had relocated from Punjab to New Jersey five years ago, was employed at an Amazon facility.
Jasvir’s father, Kewal Singh, recounted the harrowing events of the morning of June 12, stating that his daughter had stepped in to assist Gagandeep during a confrontation with the accused outside their residence. Tragically, the assailant fired multiple shots at Jasvir, resulting in her untimely demise.
The families of Jasvir and Gagandeep Kaur hail from small farming backgrounds, with Gagandeep’s father also working as a school bus driver to support his daughter’s education in the US. Gagandeep and Gaurav Gill reportedly arrived in the US around the same time. Jasvir’s husband, a truck driver, was also described as being incredibly supportive of Gagandeep.
In the aftermath of the incident, Gagandeep’s mother, Surjit Kaur, expressed shock and disbelief, stating that they were not acquainted with the perpetrator and were unaware of any potential conflicts involving their daughter. Meanwhile, Gaurav Gill’s father resides in Muscat, and his mother was reportedly hospitalised upon receiving news of the tragic events.
