Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 19-year-old man from Washington state, Gaurav Gill, is set to appear before a judge on Tuesday for a detention hearing in Middlesex County Superior Court. The hearing will determine whether Gill will remain in custody until his case is adjudicated.

Gill has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of two women on Roosevelt Avenue in West Carteret on June 12. Jasvir Kaur, a 29-year-old Carteret woman, tragically lost her life in the incident, while a 20-year-old Carteret woman remains in critical condition in the hospital, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office released this photo of the suspect in a Carteret shooting Wednesday that left one person dead.

According to the criminal complaint, Kaur sustained multiple gunshot wounds from a handgun, while the other woman was shot at least once.

Shortly after 9 a.m. on June 12, Carteret police responded to Roosevelt Avenue following a report of the shooting. The victims were transported to separate hospitals, where Kaur was pronounced dead from her injuries.

Video surveillance footage captured a man wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and white sneakers fleeing the scene after the shooting, as revealed in court documents.

Further surveillance footage showed the same individual discarding the black hoodie to reveal a white T-shirt with a visible decal, before fleeing the area in the same clothing.

After an extensive search, police located a man matching the description of the suspect in a resident’s backyard. The man, later identified as Gill, was arrested while wearing black pants, white sneakers, and a white T-shirt with a decal.

During a search subsequent to Gill’s arrest, a Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm handgun was found in his waistband, along with an extended magazine containing 9mm rounds in his front pocket. The criminal complaint notes that Gill did not possess a permit to carry the weapon.
